Angela’s story is one of passion for education, innovation, and community. From her early days as a Spanish teacher to her current leadership role in global online learning, Angie shares insights, advice, and personal interests that make her an inspiring figure for students and educators alike.
Can you tell us a little about your background?
She’s originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with German and Polish roots. She began her career as a Spanish major at Penn State University, later moving into bilingual education. Her love for languages and cultures led her to teaching, and eventually, she discovered her passion for special education. After earning a master’s degree in special education and leadership, Angie transitioned into administration, becoming a principal before moving into online education over 20 years ago.
What does your current role as Senior Program Manager involve?
Angie describes her role as similar to a concierge—helping students navigate the platform, understand the dual diploma program, and access resources. She also works closely with schools and administrators to ensure smooth registration and ongoing support for students’ academic progress.
What’s your favorite part of the job and a memorable experience?
Her favorite moments are graduation ceremonies. Angie loves celebrating students’ achievements and seeing their hard work pay off. Watching students progress from orientation to graduation—and even hearing from them after they’ve moved on—is what makes her role so rewarding.
What are your thoughts on the arts and the upcoming art competition?
Angie is passionate about the arts and enjoys writing, reading, and visiting museums. She recalls how an Andy Warhol exhibit changed her perception of art. For the competition, she looks forward to seeing students’ creativity shine and advises them not to overthink—just let their personality come through.
What hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?
Angie loves running, especially endurance races, and finds it a great way to clear her mind. She’s also an avid reader, enjoying psychological thrillers and lighthearted romances as a way to relax.
If you could invite three people or characters for coffee, who would they be?
Her choices include Jacinda Ardern, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, for her inspiring leadership; poet Emily Dickinson, for her unique perspective on life; and Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, to explore his fascinating character and challenges.
How are you involved in your local community?
Angie actively participates in her son’s school, supports animal shelters, and engages in environmental initiatives. She also takes part in holiday programs like adopting families in need.
Why is a global student community important?
Angie emphasizes that global connections help students overcome isolation in online learning. Interacting with peers worldwide broadens perspectives and fosters cultural understanding.
What advice do you have for students about their future?
Keep an open mind, explore different interests, and don’t feel pressured to decide too early. Say ‘yes’ more often and embrace opportunities.
