Where are you located, and what is your role at Hudson Global Scholars?

I’m located in Ohio right now—so not the fun part of the United States; it gets really cold in the winter—and I am the University Advising Manager here at Hudson Global Scholars.

What do you want students to know about university advising?

I want students to know that they should always utilize university advising. Our job is to help you successfully apply to universities, whether it’s in the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia—anywhere internationally. We have a lot of participating universities we partner with, and we want students to take advantage of those because they come with a lot of perks.

When you apply with us, there are no SATs, no ACTs, no application fees, no essays, and no letters of recommendation. The list goes on and on. But the biggest thing I’ll say is this: schedule your meeting. It doesn’t matter if you’re in 9th or 10th grade—just schedule a meeting with one of our advisors. You won’t regret it.

Why is advising so important to the Hudson Global Scholars mission?

Selecting a pathway in college or a future career is very difficult, especially at a young age. We’re expected to know what we want at 16, 17, or 18. University advising gives students different pathways and avenues to think about so they don’t feel overwhelmed.

Sometimes that first meeting is just a conversation. Our goal is to support students from beginning to end. When you’re transitioning out of the dual diploma program, the university advising team is here to make sure you and your family know you’re not alone.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s students. I’ve been working with students since the beginning of my career. And specifically, international students. I was an international student myself, so being able to support others navigating that journey is incredibly fulfilling.

What part of your job surprises people the most?

Families are always surprised by the level of support students receive. We help with applications, the visa process, housing, and even airport pickup. Seeing students arrive and say thank you is one of the most rewarding parts.

What advice do you want students to remember?

Be yourself, because everybody else is already taken. You’ll find your people—the ones who love you for who you are—and you don’t want to live a life pretending.
