Meet Louise, a dedicated electives teacher who brings business, technology, and creativity to students around the world. From farm life in Kentucky to the evolution of global distance learning—and her love of art, animals, and lifelong learning—Louise shares her story and advice for students.

Where are you at the moment?
I am currently in Central Kentucky, in Paris, Kentucky. My husband and I own about a 50-acre farm, and I love it. I love being in the country. I don't think I could survive in the city at all.

What’s farm life like for a teacher?
We don't do a lot—we don't make money off the farm, it's more for our enjoyment. But I'm very blessed that my mom and my daughter and her husband all live on this farm. So, we can have a lot of time together. We do have a couple of horses that are just more for fun, and I love my dogs. I have three Shelties, and my husband has two beagles. And we have lots of cats that run around outside, so I'm a big animal person. That's kind of a relaxation thing—just going out, walking the dogs, and being on the farm.

What’s the weather like right now?
Oh my goodness—today it's going to be in the mid-60s, and by Sunday, it's going to be wind chills in the teens. So, you know, that's Kentucky weather. That's just how it goes.

What is your role at Hudson Global Scholars?
My position is pretty much a full-time electives teacher, but I focus more on business and technology. I teach digital media, intro to business, web design, media, and communications. Distance learning has been a passion of mine since the early days of the internet. My goal has always been to give students opportunities to learn on their own schedule and follow their passions.

How has distance education evolved?
It has definitely become more global. Students now have the opportunity to meet others from around the world and learn about cultures they may never experience otherwise.

Any final advice for students?
Be involved with anything and everything you can. Meet students from other cultures. Learn from them. Take advantage of the opportunities available to you.
