School holidays are one of the most enjoyable parts of the school year for students in Türkiye. After months of studying, taking exams, and completing homework, holidays give us a chance to relax and spend more time with our families and friends. They also help us recharge before a new school term begins. Although every student spends the holidays differently, there are many common activities that most of us enjoy.
The longest holiday is the summer holiday.
It usually lasts for almost three months, so students have plenty of time to rest. Many families travel to different cities, visit grandparents or relatives, or go on holiday to the seaside. Türkiye has many beautiful beaches and tourist destinations, so summer is the perfect season for travelling. Families who stay at home often enjoy picnics, shopping, visiting parks, or exploring nearby places.
I usually spend my summer holiday with my family. I enjoy watching films, reading books, listening to music, and meeting my friends whenever they are available. Since many of my friends travel during the holidays, we sometimes keep in touch online instead. I also like improving my English, learning new skills on the internet, and preparing myself for the next school year. I believe holidays are not only for relaxing but also for personal growth.
Another interesting part of school holidays is experiencing everyday life in Türkiye.
Many people wake up later than usual, have long family breakfasts, and spend evenings outside because the weather is warm. Cafés, parks, and shopping centres become popular meeting places for young people. Traditional Turkish food, such as gözleme, simit, kebabs, and ice cream, is enjoyed even more during the holidays.
School holidays are also a great opportunity to discover Türkiye's rich culture and history.
Some families visit museums, historical sites, castles, or famous natural attractions. These trips help students learn outside the classroom and appreciate the beauty of their own country.
Even though holidays are fun, many students also spend some time studying. Reading books, practising foreign languages, or reviewing difficult subjects can make returning to school much easier. Finding a balance between relaxation and learning is important.
For me, school holidays are one of the best times of the year. They allow me to relax, spend quality time with the people I love, explore new places, improve myself, and create unforgettable memories. When school starts again, I return feeling refreshed, motivated, and ready for new challenges.
