From Tiramisu Balls to Broken Blenders: Our Baking Event
Burçin, Student Ambassador in Türkiye, runs the Cooking & Baking Club with a group chat, and held the first live event last week.
One of the things I love the most about being part of this community is creating spaces where people can come together, try something new, and simply enjoy spending time with each other. Recently, I organized an online baking event where we made tiramisu balls together. What started as a simple cooking activity turned into one of the warmest, funniest, and most memorable events I’ve experienced.
The idea of the event was very simple. People join from their own kitchens, prepare a dessert together, and have a relaxed, friendly environment where everyone can talk, laugh, and share the experience. Cooking has always been something special for me. In my daily life, I love cooking with family and friends, chatting while preparing food, and enjoying the moment together. So, creating an event where people could experience that same feeling, even online, was something that made me really excited.
Before the event, I shared the recipe and ingredient list with everyone. The dessert we chose was tiramisu balls, a simple but delicious dessert that doesn’t require baking and can easily be made together during an online session. Everyone prepared their ingredients beforehand, and some participants even invited family members to join them while cooking.
When the event started and everyone slowly joined the call, it already felt like a cozy little gathering. Five of us joined the session, and seeing everyone appear on the screen one by one was honestly very exciting. Some people were already ready with their bowls and ingredients, while others were still preparing their kitchens and laughing about being a little late. It immediately created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
As we began the recipe, everyone started crushing the ladyfingers, mixing mascarpone, and preparing the cream. It was so fun to see everyone’s kitchens and the different ways people prepared the same recipe. Some people used blenders, others used rolling pins to crush the biscuits, and some were improvising with whatever tools they had at home.
The best part was that there were almost no quiet moments. Someone was always talking, asking a question, sharing a tip, or laughing about something happening in their kitchen. At one point someone realized they forgot something and had to quickly run to the fridge, while someone else was trying to figure out if their mixture had the right consistency.
And of course… every cooking event has its unexpected moments.
At one point during the process, our blender suddenly decided it had had enough. While we were trying to crush the biscuits, the blender made a strange sound and basically gave up in the most dramatic way possible. For a moment my friend and I froze, and then we all started laughing so hard that we couldn’t continue the recipe for a while, so we muted ourselves and let everyone continue what they were doing. Later, when we told the group what happened, we all laughed together as they hadn’t noticed what had happened! It became one of those moments that you don’t plan at all but ends up being the funniest memory of the entire event.
Meanwhile, the reality of cooking at home was also happening in the background. While following the recipe, someone was sweeping crumbs off the floor, someone else was cleaning the counter after spilling cocoa powder, and others were trying to keep their kitchens organized while still paying attention to the instructions.
Instead of making the event messy or stressful, these small real-life moments actually made everything feel even more natural and comfortable. It didn’t feel like a formal event at all. It felt like friends hanging out together while baking.
One thing that stood out to me the most during the event was how supportive everyone was. Whenever someone wasn’t sure about a step or felt like their mixture didn’t look right, the others immediately encouraged them or shared what they were doing. Those little moments of support really made a difference and created a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
By the end of the event, everyone had their own version of tiramisu balls ready. Some were coated in cocoa powder, some looked a little bigger or smaller than others, but they all looked delicious. Seeing everyone proudly show their desserts to the camera was honestly one of my favorite moments.
One of the participants, Victoria, later shared her experience from the event:
“My experience at the event was amazing, people who accompanied me at this first event I joined were very kind and made me feel safe. I’m waiting to join the next event, feeling more prepared and confident✨.”
Hearing feedback like this truly made me so happy. For me, the goal of organizing events like this is not just about cooking a recipe. It’s about creating a space where people feel comfortable, supported, and happy to try something new.
As a Student Ambassador and the founder of the Cooking and Baking Club, experiences like this motivate me even more to continue organizing events where people can connect through simple but meaningful activities. Cooking together may seem like a small thing, but it can bring people together in such a warm and genuine way.
Looking back, the event had everything: good desserts, funny accidents, messy kitchens, lots of laughter, and most importantly, supportive people who made the whole experience special.
I truly hope we can have many more events like this in the future, and hopefully with even more people joining us. And next time, maybe we will try another dessert… hopefully with a blender that survives until the end.
Thank you again to everyone who joined and helped make this event such a lovely and unforgettable experience. I’m already looking forward to the next one!
